Sunday in Bamako

I dropped in on the wedding that was happening in the street outside my house & met some really cute ladies. They welcomed me and went out of their way to make friends with me. It's funny~ we were laughing and talking (as much as we could through my minimal Bamanakan & French) & it seems to be the habit that people here don't smile in pictures. So this picture looks funny to me, because it doesn't show their charming personalities.
Anyway, the ladies with the beaded headgear are from the Songhai ethnic group & the other lady is most likely Bambara.
The wedding entertainment was orchestrated by two griots. There were 3 djembe players and 2 ladies playing gita (calabash) with sticks. I danced and saw the ritual washing of the bride's hands and feet before she goes to her husband. I think she had a twin sister, because they were both having the ritual washing at the same time. In this custom, they must do this part together, since they have shared so much of their life. Twins here are considered sacred.

You look beautiful and so happy. I'm so glad the ear phones are so elegantly camoflauged. Love you.

You look radiant. However, your lovely companions may be in need of a friendly butt pinching ;)

I love getting this exquisite opportunity to share your journey...Not only the physical journey into the tribal culture of that African soil, but also the journey of your soul and spirit forming new bonds and opening new realms of compassion and understanding. I learn so much by knowing you and watching your journey unfolding! Thank you for sharing. I love you!!

PS It's cool that the headgear works so well, too!
