Djenne to Segou to Bamako
a long drive--all day
but we get to stop in a couple of very small villages along the way. One is an animist village (have the old African beliefs in ancestor and spirit worship). In another village, we meet some female business owners. They produce and sell shea butter. The shea nuts grow on trees, are roasted and hulled, and made into many products. The cute girl in the picture was from there. The people were so friendly and curious about us. As we are so curious about them.
The picture of the cart loaded with sticks shows you the main "lumber" used everywhere I've been so far. The shops and homes are made of these branches and woven reeds and mud. The women are sitting next to the road with food to sell. They cook it right on site. They are the "fast food" service out here.
